There is an extensive Wikipedia article on the band, but for this lite' version... The band were formed in Brighton in May 1992. The band's name comes from a book the lead singer was reading. A second-hand copy of My Magic Life, the autobiography of the great English stage magician DAVID DEVANT (1868–1941). One of Devants stage illusions was to produce a floating apparition of his ‘spirit wife’. The band's motto is the same as David Devant: " All Done by Kindness."

There have been few member changes between the 1990's and 2019 ( the line-up has never officially changed anyway! ) Note, that every band member in David Devant And His Spirit Wife has a given name for the performance art aspect of this band. Names that remain true to this day!
THE VESSEL
The lead singer of David Devant And His Spirit Wife.
He is your Vessel and leads the band in song.The Vessel dons his wig and
silver boots, in order to carry out his duties!
SPECIALITY: A superb voice and adept at wearing a jumpsuit and cape
as required.
PROFESSOR RIMSCHOTT
Our man on the Drums! The Prof' for short.
SPECIALITY: Also a dab hand on the Casio PT-30 Keyboard.
THE COLONEL
David Devant And His Spirit Wife's Bassman.
When this chap is playing, everything fits into place.
SPECIALITY: A master of disguise, with more wigs than Elton John!
FOZ? (FOZ QUESTIONMARK)
Foz? is a multi talented guitarst and occasional percussion player for
the band. During the production and touring of their second album,
Foz? took a bit of a hiatus, paving the way for THE POPE to join
David Devant And His Spirit Wife. (see below)
SPECIALITY: Foz? can also play the Saw, and evidently the Kazoo!
THE POPE
Joined and played with the band throughout their second album
( Shiney On The Inside ) has been in many bands including,
Siouxsie and the Banshees.
SPECIALITY: The Pope wears a great smile and great shirts!
ICEman & COCKY YOUNG'UN
The goto men for song props and performance art!

THE LANTERN
The Lantern provided all of the film backdrops and lighting in the
original stage-shows for the band.
SPECIALITY: Master film Splicer and Joiner!
BRYN BARKHAM
Bryn played Keyboard/Hammond Organ touring with the band during their
second album. He was also the second new member alongside The Pope!
SPECIALITY: Bryn is so good, he plays in other bands too such as
Secret Affair.
